Castro Valley Real Estate
Could Castro Valley be on your
short-list of places to live in the East Bay?
This part of the San Francisco Bay Area has some
of the warmest weather and the least amount of
fog in the area. Things are also laid back and
very homey in this unincorporated city. Away from
the Big City, Castro Valley is easy to get to
and easy to stay. Castro Valley is a great place to live if you like the suburban environment and has a very good public school system. Don't forget to check out these fine Bay Area cities. Oakland Real Estate, San Leandro Real Estate, San Lorenzo Real Estate, Hayward Real Estate.

Castro Valley
is named after Don Guillermo Castro. He was given
approximately 28,000 acres by the Mexican government
for his service in the Mexican army as a lieutenant
of the militia at the pueblo of San Jose. This
land covers what are today the cities of San Leandro,
Hayward and Castro Valley. The area of Castro
Valley was used as pasture land for Don Castro’s
many head of cattle, sheep and horses during the
middle part of the 19th century. Don Castro later
lost all of his land to his loosing habit of gambling
and ended up selling it to pay his debts and then
moving to Chile with most of his family around
1864. Some of that land was sold for its redwood
stands, and as many as nine saw mills were running
in the late 1800s to supply the region with the
lumber it needed to grow. One of the most notable
periods in the history of Castro Valley
Interstate
580 serves transportation to and from Castro Valley.
Highway 238 connects I-580 to I-880 to the west.
Train service is supplied by the Bay Area Rapid
Transit (BART) system serving Castro Valley with
one station. The BART train serves many cities
around the bay including Livermore, Fremont, Bay
Point/Antioch, Oakland, Richmond and San Francisco.
Oakland International Airport is only 15 minutes
away with San Jose and San Francisco International
Airports another 20 minutes more.
Recreation can found to the north of Castro Valley
at 4,972-acre Anthony Chabot Regional Park, which
is part of the East Bay Regional Parks System.
There you will find fishing, boating, hiking,
horse back riding and biking as a few of the activities
that are offered there.
