Let's
face it. There is nothing glamorous or fun about
moving. It is a hard job and the more prepared
and organized it is the easier it will turn out.
Here are some things to think about when getting
ready for moving day:
* Change
the previous mailing address to the new one
* Reserve
a Truck or make arrangements with a moving Company.
When using a moving company, make sure to ask
them for references and to ask for a copy of their
insurance policy.
* Contact
all utility companies to turn off power, gas and
any services that will not be used. Make sure
to have them turned on at the new property.
* Start collecting
boxes and packing things that are not in use.
It always takes longer to complete this than expected.
* Mark packed
boxes clearly to eliminate any confusion of where
things go in the new property.
* Contact
the insurance company to make sure the policy
has the coverage desired and is for the right
location
* Pack all
valuables and important papers in separate boxes
and personally transport them. This will ensure
they are handled properly and give peace of mind.
* Complete
all packing at least one full day before moving
day. Moving is stressful enough without having
to scrambling to start the process.
* Notify
any credit card companies, schools, doctors etc.
about the new address
* Take inventory
of any items to be discarded and call someone
like the Salvation Army to pick them up. Make
arrangements for items to go to the dump.
* Take a
look around the new property for any potential
security vulnerabilities. The new neighborhood
always notices when someone new is moving in.
Fix any potential security threats and make sure
to have all valuables insured.
