Orinda public schools are
ranked in the top four percentile in the State
of California. Orinda has four elementary schools,
one junior high school (OIS) and one high school
(Miramonte). The population in Orinda is around
20,000 residents with an extremely high percentile
of highly educated people. Many of Orinda’s
homes are in the multi-million dollar range
with sweeping views of the hills and lush grounds.
The area is heavily wooded and offers a natural
environment with larger homes for excellent
peace and quiet along with a private surrounding.
Orinda is great for professionals who commute
with a direct BART line (Orinda Bart Station)
and easy access to highways 24 and 680. The
commute to San Francisco is only around twenty
minutes from Orinda making this a favorite place

working in the city.
The city of Orinda got
its name from the famous Katherine Fowler Phillips
who was known to the local community as “matchless
Orinda”. In the late 1800’s, a local
family named their land “Land Orinda Park”
after the famous associate. Orinda started to
really become popular in 1937 after the Caldecott
tunnel was finished and opened. The Orinda village
had been in existence since the 1920’s
and was popular with the local audience but
really gained attraction once the city of Orinda
started growing.
There are many activities
in or close by Orinda. The San Pablo Dam Reservoir
is very close by with activities such as boating,
fishing, hiking or just enjoying nature. Tilden
Park is very close and offers a wide variety
of activities such as hiking, bicycle riding
or playing golf. There is an active farmers
market that runs May through September offering
fresh produce and other items. Orinda is also
home to the Bruns Memorial Amphitheatre where
the annual Shakespeare festival is held running
June through October. The Orinda Film Festival
is home to some of the finest Indy films and
during the summer months there are free concerts
every Saturday evening starting at 6:30 PM.
