San Leandro Real Estate
Are you looking for a community
that is both quiet and away from the big city
grind yet near enough to the urban setting so
you can still get the culture you need? Then
maybe San Leandro Real Estate is what you are looking
for. Bordering
cities include Oakland to the north, San Lorenzo
to the south and Castro Valley to the east.
San Leandro was discovered in 1772 and became
a city exactly 100 years and a day later. San
Leandro was the county seat of Alameda County
until an earthquake destroyed the county courthouse
in 1868. After that Oakland became the county
seat due largely to the fact that it would be
the terminus for the transcontinental railroad
in 1869. Don't forget to check out these other fine Bay Area Cities. San Lorenzo Real Estate, Union City Real Estate, Oakland Real Estate, Alameda Real Estate.
Bay Area Real Estate
Agriculture used to be one of San Leandro main
industries up until the early 1900s. One tradition
that still harkens back to this time is the
yearly Cherry Festival that celebrates the cities
former chief crop. Almost all of the Bay Area
was cultivated land before developers moved
in to build housing. Most of San Leandro’s
housing was built during WWII and up into the
1960s until all the land had been used up. There
was quite a bit of heavy industry along the
rail line that came up from Alameda to Davis
Street. Much of that industry has been replaced
with services and warehousing industries and the Bay Area Real Estate market has continued to grow since. Companies
like Coca Cola, Kraft/General Foods, Ghiradelli
Chocolate Co. and Otis Spunkmeyer Cookies have
located themselves in this fair city.
Interstates 880 and 580 as well as highway 238
serve San Leandro as well as the Bay Area Rapid
Transit (BART) train system that operates two
stations in the city. Access to the Bay area’s
three major airports is a snap. Oakland International
Airport is only 5 minutes to the north, San
Jose International is 30 miles to the south
and San Francisco International is 20 miles
to the west.
San Leandro also has a full service marina that
has 455 berths, two yacht clubs and two golf
courses. Many locals head east towards the East
Bay hills and enjoy some recreation at Lake
Chabot and other East Bay Regional Parks facilities.
San Leandro is the city that removes you from
the daily grind yet allows you to enjoy the
closeness of the big cities. Contact us today
